The members of this responsible care body, which seeks to move towards a more sustainable industry, reviewed the Executive Committee's main milestones during its first year.

Moving strongly towards a more sustainable industry

Several key figures from the chemical sector and SQM Iodine Plant Nutrition (IPN) met at the Nueva Victoria plant to highlight the achievements and projections of this innovative management model. The event reflected the progress made in safety, environmental protection and commitment to the communities surrounding our operations.

ASIQUIM CEO Sergio Barrientos highlighted the site’s progress since his first visit in 2013. “Today I found a plant with safety and protocols far superior to what I saw at the time, which is very pleasing,” he said.

Daniela López, Sustainability Change Agent at SQM IPN, emphasized the importance of a culture of accountability for business development, noting that this event “reinforces our 2025 challenge, where we want to continue moving towards a culture of accountability, strengthening our management and linkage with environmental and community challenges, always aligned with our company’s purpose.

Francisco Horn, a member of ASIQUIM’s board, valued the committee’s integral approach, pointing out: “What you see at the plant is what we heard at the meeting. We are working on improving details and facing the problem of accountability with a conscious vision.”

Annie Leyton, Responsible Care Management Engineer at SQM, highlighted the achievement of having formed a committee to address the challenges of Responsible Care: “We are proud of this year’s progress, the dialogue with ASIQUIM and the participation of two representatives at the site, as well as taking on new challenges towards 2025 to continue producing the best iodine in the world, thus helping improve people’s quality of life.”

This anniversary marks a milestone in the implementation of strategies that benefit not only the operation, but also communities and the environment, consolidating SQM Iodine Plant Nutrition for its commitment to sustainable development in Chile.
