Community of Pozo Almonte benefits from new job training

‌The industrial cleaning training course was kicked off at a meaningful ceremony attended by representatives from SQM, the Pozo Almonte Municipal Labor Information Office (OMIL), Dos Barbas and program beneficiaries, specifically 24 individuals from the community in the Tarapacá Region.

‌The course will be taught using a level 2 asynchronous methodology over a total of 150 hours. To ensure participant connectivity, they will be supplied with tablets containing complementary material. The training process will also include face-to-face classes.

The Head of Community Affairs for SQM, Teddy Tapia Malebrán, touched on the importance of generating training opportunities for the community. “These enhancement and training programs are organization-wide concepts for the company; one of our main objectives is to provide tools and skills to the communities with which we engage. The skills that will be provided to these individuals are necessary for them to gain better access to the labor market, with better conditions and better salaries, which will undoubtedly help improve their quality of life.”

Daniel Cáceres, a participant in the training course, spoke about this new stage: “This course makes a great contribution to safety issues and reflects the company’s commitment to support the training of qualified personnel, including those of us participating in this course, which will be a great opportunity to have better economic stability, especially with the large indigenous population in the area.”

On behalf of the Municipality of Pozo Almonte, Alejandra González, Head of the OMIL, said: “We are very grateful to SQM for this opportunity to give these courses to the community. That way we can assure them greater success with the job placement offers they publish at our office.”

In turn, Yerko Díaz, OTEC Manager for Dos Barbas, said: “We are very happy to embark on this journey together with SQM, kicking off the first of two courses that we will conduct this year in the community of Pozo Almonte. We hope that all participants can take this industrial cleaning course, which is in great demand by mining companies, since this profile is very necessary for their operational continuity.”

‌The industrial cleaning course will equip the 24 participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to correctly plan and execute the protocols in this area of mining and industry, both locally and throughout the Tarapacá Region.
