Activa Fest 2024: Fun, sports and sustainability in Mejillones

The event featured various sports activities to highlight local athletes who excel in different disciplines.
Over 400 people attended Activa Fest 2024 in the Mejillones Plaza de la Cultura, organized by SQM Iodine Plant Nutrition, the Municipal Sports and Recreation Foundation (CMDR) and the Municipality of Mejillones.
The event was marked by sports, recreation and care for the environment, with participants enjoying a wide range of activities for all ages, including motor skills development for kids, home gardening, chess, table tennis, munay, stand-up paddle, jiu-jitsu, basketball, cheerleading, biking, kayaking and beach tennis.
For José Robles, Deputy Community Relations Manager for SQM Iodine Plant Nutrition, initiatives that promote quality of life and community development are extremely important. “We know that sports drive integration and development for people, so we created this space promote various disciplines and recognize talented athletes from Mejillones.”
Mejillones Mayor Marcelino Carvajal was enthusiastic about the activity, commenting: “This space in the Plaza de la Cultura, as we have called it, also allows us to feel like children again. It is a celebration for the community, a celebration for Mejillones, right now that summer is starting,” he stressed.
E-KARTING CIRCUIT
One of the day’s big attractions was the exciting Eliseo E-Karts circuit, which provided attendees with a unique sustainable, zero-emission karting experience.
Led by former Formula 1 driver Eliseo Salazar, attendees had a good time, while sharing the legendary driver’s passion and experience.
This event promoted physical activity while also celebrating sports and showcasing fundamental values like health, teamwork and discipline.
Activa Fest 2024 stands out as a driver of social integration and a tool to improve quality of life, reflecting SQM Iodine Plant Nutrition’s commitment to sports and healthy living.
Activa Fest 2024 also took place in Iquique with innovation and entrepreneurship activities, and in Tocopilla as part of Tocopilla En Verde, an environmental fair open to the entire community.
